UESN Military Ranks - Officers

Description

For the UESN’s combined forces rank hierarchy much of it mimicked an overall structure of Navy-Marines. Enlisted ranks among marine forces range from Private to Sergeant Major while those among the naval forces range from Seaman to Chief Petty Officer with two ranks of Warrant Officer at the top for both. Officer ranks are as follows starting from the top down:

-Senior Chief of Staff(no standard insignia)
-Joint Chief of the Marines/Joint Chief of the Navy (2 each for Terrestrial and Space forces, no standard insignia)
-Admiral(N)/General(M)
-Rear Admiral(N)/Brigadier General(M)
-Commodore(N)/Colonel(M)
-Senior Captain(N, wartime rank, no change in insignia)
-Captain(N)/Commander(M)
-Commander(N)/Captain(M)
-Lieutenant Commander(N)/Staff Commander(M)
-Lieutenant
-Staff Lieutenant
-Ensign

Because of naval tradition the rank of Commander can command a ship but typically serves as the Executive Officer under a Captain. On the marine side the positions of the two ranks are the opposite. The distinction is that a Captain for the marine forces can control at most a platoon or the equivalent of a twelve-man pilot squadron. A Commander would likely be in charge of a company or several squadrons. For the Navy Commander and Marine Captain - unless in situations such as a battlefield promotion or a demonstration of significantly higher capacity - only officers at or above 26 years of age may be promoted to those ranks to ensure that experienced personnel join the upper ranks.

Navy and Marine officers at Staff Commander rank are recognized as capable of a solid command. For the Navy such persons would start with smaller vessels while Marine personnel would command a personal platoon of infantry or pilots.

Every military has to have its ranking structure. ZAFT might be simple with their color-coded soldiers but this better distinguishes the leaders from the led.

And yes the flag on the top right is the UESN flag. More will come to expand on that later.

P.S. to the Front Mission fans - Yes, I know what it looks like. But don't judge me. I love that design.

UPDATE: realized a certain inconsistency with the Lieutenant Commander rank Leon has and made the appropriate adjustments.
